Here is a little bit of a beginner's guide I'm trying to put together for new players to the game. Go ahead and feel free to let me know if I screwed something up, or you'd like to add additional information.Table of Contents:1) Common Acronyms2) Basic stuff3) Building types, and what they do.4) Classes of units and their benefits5) Strategies and other tips1- Common AcronymsSo far here are just a few I can think of off the top of my head that we see around the sub a lot.HW2= Halo Wars 2JR= JackrabbitT1,T2,T3= Tech levels 1,2,3 respectivelyAA= Anti AirPop= Population2- Basic StuffThere are two main resources in HW2. 'Power'(Yellow) and 'Supply'(Blue)-Power can be gathered across the map via collections of yellow tubes, created at a Power Extractor/Generator, or awarded to your team for capturing Power Nodes.
Power is primarily used to advance Tech levels, purchase upgrades, and pay some of the cost for specialized units (like counter units and healers)-Supply can also be gathered on the map from collections of blue crates or created at a Harvester/Supply Pad. Supply is used to foot the entire bill for most of your units, and each unit at least costs some supply. You can build turrets, buildings, and mini bases using supply.Be sure to send your starting units to gather resources once the match starts!3) Buildings and what they doI will list both Banished and UNSC buildings.A) Power Extractor/Generator- Used to create PowerB) Harvester/Supply Pad- Used to create SupplyC) Main Base- Used to upgrade tech levels, create scouts, create basic infantry, and to create specialized units for some leadersD) War Counsel/Armory- Used to create your Hero Unit, Super Unit, and upgrade other things. (Unit production time, base health/turret damage, Pop Cap Increase)E) Raid Camp/Barracks- Used to create specialized infantry, and global infantry upgrades. For both factions you will be able to create:-anti vehicle (Hunters/Cyclops)-anti infantry (Suicide Grunts, Elite Rangers/Flamers,Snipers)-anti building foot soldiers (Jump Pack Brutes/Flamers)F) Foundry/Garage- Used to create all vehicles other than scout units, and global vehicle upgrades.

Here is where both factions create:-AA (Reavers/Wolverines)-light vehicles (Marauder/Warthog)-tanks (Wraith/Scorpion)-The UNSC will also be able to produce their artillery unit from here (Kodiak)-The Banished will be able to produce their Base Destroyers (Locust).G) Apex/Airpad- Used to create all aircraft, and global aircraft upgrades. Here is where where both factions create:-light aircraft (Banshee/Hornet)-healing units (Engineer/Nightingale)-Banished will be able to produce their artillery unit (Blisterback)-UNSC will be able to produce their heavy air (Vulture)4) Classes of Units and their benefitsHalo Wars 2 uses a 'rock, paper, scissors' balancing system. Typically infantry is strong against air- air is strong against vehicles - vehicles are strong against infantry.
This is the VERY basic premise, and something to remember going forward. Counter units are typically the BEST for taking out their preferred target, so build up on the proper counter if your opponent is sticking to one type of unit.While building units, you will notice little colored symbols next to their menu icon. These represent what the unit is good (or not good) at killing.Green - Best unit to deal with.Yellow - Okay to deal with.Red - Worst unit to deal with.5) Strategies and other tipsI will try and keep this short and sweet.A) Gather resources with your starting units!B) Fight for power nodes on the map.
They produce power for your whole team.C) Take advantage of mini bases around the map for extra building slots (or even to deny your opponent their mini base).D) SCOOOOOUTTTT. If your opponent is trying to quick tech and build mass air, youll be able to put pressure on them and counter effectively, if you see it coming.E) In team modes, engage the enemy with your teammates. Your army isnt doing anyone any favors hiding back at your base while your teammate is getting trashed in a 1v2 (or worse); get out there and fight!F) DONT quit if something doesnt go your way. MANY games can be won coming back from an early rush, or after some hopeless encounters. Dont fuck over your team by bailing on the match if your base gets destroyed, if your rush fails, or your army gets wiped.
You can win a lot of games by hanging around and turning the tide.G) Dont forget to spend leader points, and use your leader powers.H) Take advantage of garrisons and height around the map. Setting up a Sniper or Kodiak on a mountain ridge will greatly increase its range.If anyone has anything else to add, let me know and we can keep this bad boy updated.Lastly, here is a link for HW2 Halopedia, for those who want more in depth information. Picked up Xbox Gamepass for Sea of Thieves, got bored and quickly thought I had wasted $10. Then I came across Halo Wars 2 and am a believer! I passed on HW1 due to a previous committed relationship with 'FPS's' but that quickly ended (they changed, I changed).The community of HW2 has been great and I love entering matches with players willing to help me up my game!However, I do come across guys who are rank 50+ that just do not play. Is that a pro strat or something?. Can you add these things to the guide? I'm teaching someone new and these things came up.If you get locked out of selecting anything at the beginning of the game, bring up the pause menu (f10 by default) for a second and leave it to have control again.To see invisible units or bases, you need a unit with detection in range of them.
