I almost ready quit my job over this problem (not really but it might get to that), I have been trying to figure this out for months.So I'm the IT guy for a group of physicians offices and we use lots of convertable tablets. I have an epidemic in which some of my users report they lose there WiFi connection.
The only way I have been able to restore the connection is to restart the tablet. We have a total of 8 offices (all configured the exact same way), this problem has poped up at 4 of these locations (why only 4 who knows?!), but only two or three tablets at each site have the problem ( other tablets at the same site of the exact same make/model are unaffected!).
I am struggling with this problem because I can not figure out why this is happening. I can not find a common denominator.We use Toshiba Portege M400, M700, M750, M780 tablets & Lenovo x201 tablets. The problem has accured on every model I just listed. Some of these tablets use Windows 7 and other use XP.

Does the connection drop when they are in the middle of something or when they have let the computers sit for a while and then go to use them? What brand are your access points? Make sure, like mjrowell said that there isn't a firmware upgrade that is available. Finally, check your AV. It could be that the AV that you are using is shutting it down as a security measure of some sort.

I have this issue with my home network and it is, in my case, because my neighbor does not understand the concept of coordinating wireless frequency usage. For 802.11 abg we have channels 1-11 but in reality the only usable ones are 1,6,11 because of the width of the signal.

As for our APs we use cisco aeronet, I have some 520Gs and 1142s at all my sites. I have upgraded the fireware on them trying to fix this problem already. As for the wifi channels I have them set to auto to use the least conjested channel. I guess I could set this manually to 1,6,11 but I doubt this is the problem because one of the sites that have this issues is in an area where no other neighboring enties are close enough to cause that type of problem.I will try the power settings option, I have yet to try this and I hope it fixes it.
